Imported new to New Zealand from UK in late 1961 by Rex Flowers, this now historic 1961 Gemini Mk3A chassis number 09 Formula Junior (FJ) (the last of nine Gemini Mk3A cars built) has been in New Zealand ever since.
At the request of Rex, Gemini constructor The Chequered Flag of Chiswick, London, the car was tested (raced) by Bill Moss at Silverstone on 7th October 1961 (1st place in two races), and again by Bill on 8th October 1961 at Snetterton (DNF – brakes).
The 1060cc Ford engine currently fitted to the car has a Farndon forged steel crankshaft, JE Pistons, SAENZ conrods and is dry-sumped. New brake drums have been machined and fitted into the front wheels.
There’s a spare fibreglass bodywork nose section, a spare fibreglass tail section, as well as the nose and tail body moulds. There’s also a spare windscreen and mould, suspension jigs, the original chassis, a set of four new Dunlop racing tyres, plus an amount of spares and support equipment, and the Gemini’s own road trailer.
Included are an extensive tabulated race history and photographs of the car, and a written race history of Rex’s 1962/63 and 1963/64 seasons (all on a flash drive), plus records for all races since new, and event programmes dating from 1996 when I purchased and began racing the car.
The car is located in Auckland, New Zealand.
